Blog Post #2

Reading about the ins and outs of the Supreme Court has proven to be a great refresher when it came to highlighting the important roles it plays in our country today. If you would like more information regarding the history of the Supreme Court, as well as how it evolved over time, feel free to check out this article to find out more.

Before reading the article, I wanted to check with myself on what I knew about the Supreme Court so far. I knew that the Supreme Court had the highest form of jurisdiction over all laws in the United States and was formed by the Constitution. I also thought it was a large and important part of the Judiciary branch, holding many important cases such as State v. Mann and Brown v. Board of Education. These cases and others were taken to the Supreme Court because they were filed for appeal after being reviewed in smaller district courts. It was only after I read the article that I realized there was much more to it’s significance.

An important aspect that I didn’t know about the Supreme Court was the existence and roles of “Court Justices.” These are people who are nominated by the president and elected by the US senate. They are all required to sit on the Board of Regents, take part in the court opinion, and hold weekly meetings with each other. I also learned more about the role of a Chief Justice. This person takes part in the court majority opinion, schedules meetings, and overall rules over the court, almost to the extent of a court judge, which was really surprising to me.

I feel that the main takeaway from this article is to highlight the importance of not just the Supreme Court, but our entire judiciary system. For more than 2 centuries, so many court cases have occurred, and each one, no matter how small, has made at least some sort of impact on our country and has affected the way people live. They helped to further outline the law for both individuals and the higher forms of government. I feel that this information is very valuable and was a great evolution in law for the Founding Era. Blog Post #1

Sources that you can depend on for important and crucial information about what's going on in the outside world can be really hard to come by in this day and age. it can be very frustrating to find articles that contain credible information. That is why I have come up with 5 news sources which I personally like and why other people should too. Please note that each source will be linked in the titles and are ranked in no particular order.

1. The New York Times

When you hear the word “Newspaper,” I’m sure that this is what comes to mind. The New York Times is a classic, reliable, and easily accessible source of information that covers a plethora of topics, from the US and politics to Sports and Health. You can even subscribe to the website for $1 a week and get unlimited access, along with getting the printed newspaper version delivered to your front door.

2. CNN News

This news source is also as reliable as the one I previously listed, but not only does it produce credible information covering many topics, but there is a specific website made especially accessible for students called CNN Student News. This site covers a few topics in the length of 10 minutes and was used to help middle and high school kids reach an understanding of important events. I should know since I watched it all through middle school and high school, and it was a great recommendation for history classes.

Google News

This news outlet is particularly useful when there are certain topics that you’re interested in. Google News uses your news searches in their search engine to bring up new topics based on the algorithm of those searches. This can be a big help to those who want to learn more about a certain topic or event, whether it be for a report or paper a student is trying to write, or just out of interest and curiosity. This site actually helped my interest grow in Health and Sciences that helped make a positive impact on daily life.

NBC News

Why spend so much time trying to read about the latest news events when you can watch them anytime and anywhere? If you don’t have the time to read articles on today’s events, you can catch up with NBC’s 24-hour breaking news coverage. The website still allows you to view and read about other past news from various topics as well, and you can view the news coverage on the NBC TV channel. This is also a great source of info for people who are invested in politics as it provides great political commentary.

NPR News.

For any and all political lovers out there, this is the best award-winning news source that is fit to satisfy your needs. This website provides many different shows and podcasts that contain great in-depth commentary about certain political topics/events, as well as providing you with a plethora of news articles. This is also a great news source for the radio, so you can listen to it anytime, anywhere, and is accessible to everyone.
